Premier League Predictions: 14 games in – what will the table look like in May?
As we approach the festive period in the footballing calendar, we start to get a sense of which teams are going to have a successful season and who are going to struggle.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, clubs have the chance to change their fortunes if they spend wisely.
Here are my predictions for what the table will look like in May as things stand.
20. Hull
Hull have been consistently inconsistent this season.
They have some good players with the likes of Hernandez and Dawson but the turmoil surrounding the appointment of Mike Phelan may have given the team too much to do to avoid the drop.
19. Swansea
It has been a difficult season for Swansea, another team that has suffered the stress of a managerial change.
Players including Llorente and Fer have excelled in a team that look destined for the drop unless results pick up soon.
18. Burnley
Despite Burnleys strong start to the campaign, their team is very thin and arguably not at a suitable quality to get results against other teams fighting relegation.
Sean Dyche is undeniably a good manager but faces a challenge to keep this team afloat.
17. Sunderland
The Black Cats haven’t had an easy start to life under David Moyes.
For many they are destined to go down but the goals Defoe brings and the performances of young keeper Jordan Pickford could see them keep their league status.
16. Crystal Palace
Palace were hugely ambitious in the summer, spending big money on Andros Townsend and Christian Benteke.
With these signings totalling over £40 million, the results have not replicated this investment and Pardew may find himself unemployed if he cannot turn things around soon.
15. Middlesbrough
Many didn’t expect much from Middlesbrough this season but they have surprised so far this term.
If they can improve their home form and Negredo finds form then they could enjoy a successful season.
14. West Ham
West Ham have been the underachievers so far this year.
With players like Payet and Lanzini they should be towards the top of the league but the move to the Olympic Stadium has removed the identity of the club and the rest of the season could be difficult.
13. Bournemouth
For a team with a stadium capacity of 11,000 Bournemouth have proven themselves to be a solid Premier League side.
£15 million signing Jordon Ibe has struggled to impress but with big wins against Liverpool showing they can perform when it matters, they will surely enjoy a mid table finish.
